" WHAT A FILIPINO IS LIKE:
BELIEFS AND TRADITIONS IN SELECTED PHILIPPINE PLAYS."

We Filipinos have different beliefs and traditions that until now are alive and being practiced. Some of this beliefs are about relationships, marriage, family, and etc.I am sharing some of the beliefs and traditions that are found in selected Philippine plays: " The New Yorker ", "The world is an apple", "Sabina",and Sepang Loca".
There are Filipinos that are fascinated by the culture of other countries. Sometimes they even imitate and forgets their own tradition. for example Kikay the main character of The New Yorker in Tondo. She have gone to New York for one year and when she got back to Tondo, she want to change the tradition of a Tondo women as a New Yorker girl. She was overwhelm by the tradition of New York and even made her mother dress and mannered like a New Yorker citizen. She also denied the memories they shared by her childhood friends and even disgusted by what her childhood friends told her.
Poverty is one of the problem in Philippines that's why parents do their best to provide and sustain the needs of their family. This belief may relate to the play entitled " the World is an apple", this play shows that poverty can change the perception of an individual and can make one self be bad in order to solve the problem. For example Florentino , the father of the play " The World is an Apple" . He steal just one apple just for his daughter and because of that he was out of his job.
We also have this belief that if a woman have an affair to a married man it is a disgrace not just for the family but also in the society. The play "Sabbina" is related to this belief. The family of Sabbina are against to the relationship of Sabbina towards Mr. George Price because they knew that Mr. George is already married. And it is a disgrace especially to those who are really sensitive of what may people think and say.
Superstitious beliefs are the most popular belief of the Filipinos. This beliefs affect and molded the personality of a Filipino. The play " Sepang Loca " shows the superstitious belief that if a woman wants to bear a child, she must pray and give some gifts like a  dance in a Patron Saint to answer her prayers to bear a child.

One Sided Love

Love sucks when its only you
The one who gives until they are blue

You give your heart until it bleeds
They dont care at all about your needs

Love is powerful, love is strong
But if its only you, you feel so wrong

You think about them every minute of the day
They dont give a crap, they just want to play

My emotions are strong and true
It hurts like hell when its only you

I did the best I could to win her heart
She unleashed the pain and now it starts

It feels like a sword in my chest
This burning feeling is not the best

How am I supposed to handle all of this sorrow?
For me, will there even be a tomorrow?

What should I do? I want do die
I dont think I can look her in the eye

I think about her every minute of the day
This love I have will not go away.
Neither will the pain, I am sad to say

What is wrong with me? I'm a human being
Am I so ugly that I should never be seen?

What else can I do? I gave it my all
She loves someone else, so here is my fall

I was living on cloud nine and now Im back to earth
I wish I could go back to the time of my birth

I would tell myself, stay away from love
Love seems like its not from above

When you finally realize you are not loved
From down below is where it comes.

This burning torment inside my heart
Will never go away, it will never part

So here I am with a sword in my soul
Burning me like a flaming piece of coal

They say love is blind, they weren't lying
I fell for her, now I think about dying.

Nobody needs to pity me
I hope no one ever has to see

The pain and sorrow that is my hell
Through this poem I did tell

She broke my heart today after 2 years
So now I am typing through a bunch of tears

" A Murderous Choice"

I was once devoted,

to the promises we created
where we learned to value
every second of our commitment.

As years go by my Love,
the rainbow within our hearts slowly vanished.
Dark clouds appeared
diminishing the light within.

Oh my Love! you showed a mask
to keep me at hold to the promises i once believed.
But revelation took its place
to unveil your unfaithful works.
And made my thoughts
as dark as the wild forest in night.

Revenge is what i yearn!
but it was never achieved
because of the so called LOVE.
Instead you my Love
chose a murderous path.
Softly killing me with your own hands
and walked away till my sight
slowly fades.
